The Gold Museum at Jinguashi
The real gold-mining heritage a few minutes past Jiufen: hours, tickets, and how the Benshan mine tunnel works.
The gold that made Jiufen was actually dug one ridge to the east, at Jinguashi — and the real mining heritage lives there, not on the Old Street. The Gold Museum is a hillside park of the old mine buildings and a walk-in mine tunnel, a few minutes past Jiufen on the same buses, and far quieter than the lanes.
Getting there from Jiufen
Stay on bus 788 or 1062 for a few more minutes past the Jiufen Old Street stop to the Gold Museum (金瓜石 / 黃金博物館) stop — the same buses covered in the last-bus tool. It's about ten minutes further up the road. On weekends and holidays New Taipei runs traffic control here, directing private cars to the outlying lots with a shuttle up, so the bus is again the simpler way in.
