A self-guided walk through the temples, fort and riverside cenotaphs that tell Orchha's one story — Ram worshipped as a king — ending at the Betwa ghats.
Orchha is small enough to see on foot, and every stone here carries the same story: a town that treats the god Ram as its living king. This walk links the places that tell it — starting at the temple where the state salutes the deity as sovereign, and ending by the river that is the town's beauty and its one real danger.
The river is beautiful and dangerous
The walk ends at the Betwa ghats. The river looks calm but drowns people — most recently a young visitor at Seedhi Ghat in 2026. Enjoy the view from the steps; do not bathe or wade, and keep children close. In the monsoon the water can rise fast and without warning.
Before you set out
- One ticket covers the monuments
- The single combined Madhya Pradesh ticket covers every floor, the rooftops, the cenotaphs and the temples in the fort complex. You should not have to tip a keeper to unlock a roof or an upper floor — a common request that isn't official. Darshan at the Ram Raja Temple and the evening Guard of Honour are free.
