How to read this map

Police street-level data is anonymized: each point is snapped to an approximate map location — a nearby street or landmark — and never an exact address. It shows where thefts have been reported, not where your bike is at risk right now, and it is not a live tracker.
The data runs roughly 6 to 8 weeks behind, and this is reported crime only — many bike thefts are never reported, and most that are go unsolved.

Keep your bike

Use two locks — a solid D-lock plus a second, different lock — so one tool can’t take the whole bike.
Lock the frame AND a wheel to a fixed, immovable stand, not just to itself.
Park somewhere busy and overlooked rather than a quiet corner or alley.
Register the frame number free at BikeRegister so a recovered bike can be returned to you.
Photograph the bike and note the frame number before anything happens.
Take lights and quick-release wheels or saddle with you.

Reported-theft hotspots

Reports cluster around the city centre and the university quarter — Broad Street through to Oriel Street and Magdalen Street — plus Gloucester Green and the bus and rail stations.

Where to park more securely

Oxford has monitored cycle parking at the railway station and beneath Westgate; a covered, overlooked, monitored rack beats a lamppost on a side street.
